Fix- The following website does a force install of two Shockwave Players:

Cannot Add a Printer

Issue - When trying to add a printer other than a HP 3800N either you receive an error message "Printer Spooler has Stopped Working" or no message is given. This mostly happens on images dated 091010 and newer. This fix should relate to freshly imaged and/or deployed computers only.

If you are having issues adding a HP 3800N, please put in a helpdesk ticket.

Cause - This is caused by certain drivers not being installed.

Fix- Install a 3800-type printer first. They include HP Universal Drivers that will make just about any printer work regardless of driver set.

  • X:\
  • Printers
  • Printers
  • Find any printer with 3800 in the name and double click
  • Find the printer you want to add and double click it too.
  • You can now delete the 3800 printer, as the HP Universal Drivers are embedded in the machine now.

Notes- Technology is working on slip streaming the drivers into the newer images to correct the problem and this item has been added to our image checklists.

Why Don't We Always Use HP Universal Drivers? - HP Universal Drivers allow use of printing and not much else. Specialized features that are specific to printers do not always work, so it's best practice to install drivers specific to the hardware. We have tested the 4250N and IKON printers after this walk-through and all performed normally.

GoSolve Installation does not work

Issue - The default settings for GoSolve will cause improper installation of the program.

Cause - GoSolve is trying to install Flash 8 and Adobe Reader 7, both of which have been superseded by more recent programs. Also GoSolve Multiplication and Division tries to install into the incorrect directory.

Fix - Luckily the fix is easy, and just requires paying attention during the installation process.

Microphone does not work in Soliloquy

Issue - When using soliloquy, the microphone does not pick up any audio. However, when using any other program, the microphone works fine.

Cause - This is caused by the microphone defaulting to the "phoneline" audio function rather than the "microphone". Most programs will receive audio input from either source, but soliloquy only allows input from the microphone audio-in function. The Phoneline function is actually a feature built onto the audio card of the GX620's for use in such programs as Skype.

Fix- This is fixed by switching the audio function over to Microphone.

  • Right click on the audio icon the in lower right hand corner of your screen.
  • Click on "Recording Devices"
  • Click on "Microphone"
  • Click Set Default.
  • Restart Soliloquy.

Thanks - Thanks to our very own Robert Hansen for hunting down this issue and finding the fix.
